Man, this really feels like a stupid question, but I looked first!

I have an 87' 325ic, I love the car even if it does need a little work (which it does) but I have a couple electrical related questions about it.

I believe this car has a power top (PO told me it did) but I haven't the foggiest where the button is for the top to actuate if it is power

my top still has latches on it but I would assume that all ic's had latches.

anyone know where the button is for the top?

2nd question - brake lining warning light, pads are fine but the light is still on, should I just yank the sensors since I have the wheels off and can see pad life all the time?

1. next to you hazard, defrost buttons above the radio.
2. brake pad sensors are out, just wait till your next brake job and have those changed out too.

really? oh - I thought that was a window lockout button (hits forehead)

do I just pull the latches and hit the button?

also, behind the drivers door, there is what looks like a door handle where there is no door, any idea what thats al about?

if it doesn't look like a 2 switch button, you prolly have a manual top. Im not sure, but I think the auto tops only came with some plastic bumpered cars

roll your windows down, unlatch the front, unlatch the rear hatch from the drivers side rear inner panel (looks like a door handle)
pull the front of your top towards the back, and check if it opens manually

ah, I dont have a picture of the switch with me but its a toggle button in or out.

well, if its a manual top, how in the beans do I use it? lol :)

1. Roll down all the windows.
2. Unlatch the forward release leavers behind the sun visors.
3. Lift the front of the top about one foot.
4. Lift the back of the top until it is vertical
5. Use release handle on drivers rear door card. Top compartment should open slightly.
6. Feel around the inside edges on the driver side of the top compartment for a leaver that will release the top compartment and open it.
7. Lower rear of top into top compartment.
8. While pushing the front of the top toward the back you will need to tuck the straps and the center bar toward the rear of the car so the top will fit into the top compartment.
9. Enjoy the sunshine!

power tops were on '92 and '93 only I believe. Power top switch looks like a car profile with and without a top, it's a toggle, not a push in/push out switch like the defrost or hazards.

cool, I found all the factory manuals and instruction cards in my broken latched glove box. once it de-ices, I'll give it a go.
