    Blower motor problems

So my blower doesn't work on any setting. I pulled the cover and noticed that one blade was annihilated, so I got a motor out of a junkyard and put it in. Still doesn't work. I'm trying to follow the diagram in the bentley but I have no idea where C204, S230 or S231 are. Little help finding em? :)

Also, my A/C button doesn't light up when I push it in.

    Any ideas?

Did you test the new motor on 12v to make sure it's good?

Yeah, and I also gave my old blower motor 12v and both of them worked.

There's definitely something wrong with the wiring because the switch lit up and I got 12v at the blower motor wires yesterday, but now the switch doesn't light up and I get 0 volts at the A/C switch and blower speed control.

And the bentley says something about an inline A/C fuse, but it doesn't say where it is. Anybody know where that thing is?

Hmmmm... you got me with the inline fuse, unless they are referring to the fuse box fuse. The blower motor resistor is good?

I don't think the resistors are good since I get resistance readings that are totally different from the Bentley, but the blower still doesn't work on high speed, so I'll worry about the resistors later. But yeah, the Bentley says there's an inline fuse somewhere behind the dash for the A/C. I'll have to check that out if I can find it. I really didn't want to disassemble so much stuff but I guess that's just how it is sometimes. :(

So I was pulling some wires apart and found what appear to be splices. I dunno if they're factory or not, but it looks like someone just held 4 wires together and pressed on them with something and they all kind of merged. Doesn't look like solder. Is this factory? Don't want to pull em apart if it's factory.

And after trying everything I can think of, I measured voltage at the fuse and I have 0 volts...so now wtf do I do?

                Anybody? :(

Trace wires and get your hands on the electrical diagram. Go step by step.

How does the fan get ground anyways? Power is nothing with out ground.

Check the relay in the fuse box– mine was going bad a while ago and a good tap would get it going. I think it's K7

I found the ground point that the blower motor uses and proceeded to remove the bolt and check for corrosion or anything that would interfere with the ground. Couldn't find anything wrong with it so I put it back in and somehow when I went to tighten it the head of the bolt snapped off. :hitler:

So did a couple drill bits and my extractor tool isn't extracting the threads. FML.

I also swapped in a relay from another E30 with a working blower motor and it didn't help (before the snapped bolt fiasco, lol).

This is pissing me off, I can't find anything wrong with any of the wires, the fuses and relays are good, the switches and motor are good, so wtf?!?! I'm about ready to drive this car off a cliff. :curse:

I thought about making a new thread, and I still might, but I found out why the blower motor doesn't work.

I disconnected C204 and checked for power at the green/brown wire at the connector with the ignition in run and I had zero volts. So I checked for voltage at the fuse and I had zero volts. So I stuck a small flathead in the fuse slot for the blower motor and gave that 12 volts. Tried the blower motor and it worked. :D:D:D

So evidently my fusebox has a problem...

Is it easy to take apart the fusebox to check the traces? Or is it possible to replace just the fuse box? Everything else works fine, I just have no blower motor.

Soooooo close to finally getting the a/c working again. :D:D:D

Actually I was thinking, since the fusebox has that little extra thing on the side (I guess it's for adding stuff to the car?), it's like a little cover that you pop off and it has slots for extra fuses. I was thinking of just moving the wire for the blower motor to a slot in that thing. Would probably be easier than repairing/replacing and entire fusebox.

                            Thoughts?

I don't think you want to deal with replacing the fusebox....it's not exactly modular. check how much current the blower fan uses before wiring it into the accessory box on the fusebox ;)
