    Keyless Entry Issues

Welp as of 2 days ago my Viper alarm in my e30 has decided to go crazy and go off if you even look at the car wrong. I have had the alarm installed since like 2000 so it really doesnt owe me anything I guess. But now is a good time to get everything functional and clean up the wiring I would think. I have had minor issues for a year or so now. Maybe the brain was just on the way out.

My thoughts are to ditch the alarm entirely and start from scratch. I have decided however that I cant live without keyless entry so I need some kinda module in there. I dont really need an alarm... I never park my car in dangerous area and it almost never gets left unattended. I just want the following features:

    1. Keyless lock and unlock
    2. Dome light control similar to a new BMW... i.e. dome comes on when car in unlocked and stays on until you hit the ignition. Dome light comes on with ignition off and stays on until you open and close a door. Bonus points if you can make the lights fade in and out like the newer BMWs.
    3. Retained accessory power... Radio and accessories stay active after ignition off until you lock the car, like the newer BMW
    4. One touch windows up and down with control via the remote... again like a new BMW.
    5. Park light flash on lock and unlock...

I had all these features with the alarm (kinda at different times when it worked)but the install is kinda shit (I was young) and I dont want a big horn or to ever hear one. Anyone know what my options are for a permanent and actually working fix? What modules are good? Any way to integrate George Graves dimmer without everything going crazy? Also would ne nice to have a remote that didnt look like it came out of a cereal box...

    Luke?? HELP!!!

Show me some pics of your install.

    1. should never be an issue in these cars, unless someone totally incompetent did the install
    2. Feature called "Domelight Supervision" generally means 1 added relay. I can't live without it. fade in/out, that would be a separate module.
    3. Some alarms have an output, I prefer to use the 3 relay setup as shown at www.the12volt.com. I also use mine to NOT have the radio/windows powered during remote start.
    4. One touch windows is something I have been working on for awhile. There are a couple of different systems on the market, none do EXACTLY what I want, which is E36 functionality. Soft touch E36 "green base" switches, 1st click operates the window, 2nd click goes one touch. I am close, those switches are bizarre (both up and down wires go live when in 2nd click!) and the module I want to use has some "features" I don't like.
    5. No issues there.

As far as a piece of electronics that works and stays working?

    Nope, ain't gonna happen.

China took over. Everyone wanted cheap adequate junk, so all the actually good stuff is gone. Sorry.

Hell, I won't even do starter kill anymore. I just cannot trust cheap chinese relays enough to NOT leave someone stranded, and there are no german or american relays left, unless you find 10 year old relays...either way, no thanks!

So you think I should just install another DEI module and be done with it? I think Viper still sells a keyless entry module with no alarm. That should include all the features I currently have. Then Ill have to find away to add in George's dimmer.
