    Heat damage to speakers

I bought my car over the summer, and hadn't gotten a chance to deal with the poor quality speakers until now. I pulled all four speakers out, and found they were all infinity reference speakers. I plan on replacing them soon, but I have a few concerns. The cone in the passenger footwell was extremely warped, and my roommate suggested it could be caused by heat seeing as the exhaust runs somewhat nearby. Should I be careful in selecting speakers based on the cone material, or could the warping just be due to old age?

The rear speakers were also in terrible condition. I had actually just turned them off on my receiver because the sound was so bad. When I pulled them out, it was obvious why. The cones were covered in cracks, and the whole midsection of both had completely fallen out, so there was a small portion of the cone connected in the middle, and then a ring connected to the rubber surround. I'm not sure what exactly would cause this. I thought possibly sun damage, but my rear windows are tinted fairly dark, so I'm not sure what it could have been.

Anyways, I'm mostly concerned about the front passenger speaker, and whether I should worry about the same thing happening to a replacement. I don't really know anything about speakers, so any input would be appreciated.

Infinity Reference speakers are great speakers. The warpage was most likely from age, not heat or maybe incorrect wiring. If they got hot enough to warp anything, yor carpet would have melted too. The cacks in the back ones are more then likely from old age also. Get some new speakers and you should be good to go.
