Yes, I want to steal your car.
I grounded my amp to the battery ground location with a 3' cable and I have a ton of alternator whine. I was wondering if you grounded them to a different location to reduce the run of the ground cable. From the pic at car domain, it looks like your ground cables run under the carpet to somewhere.
And I was wondering about securing the box in the trunk because I never found a good spot and didn't feel like driving screws into the sound deadening on the trunk floor.
I have 2 6in long 4ga ground straps. They both terminate to the trunk floor.
The box is bolted to the trunk floor (bolts inside the box) and also bolted to the trunk firewall.
The amps are bolted into place, through the box with big washers on the inside. Trying to pry on the amps would only damage the amps themselves. You aren't prying a 1/8in thick, 3/4 diameter washer through 3/4in MDF.
To remove the amps you would have to first remove the rear seat, then the sub, then unbolt the box, then unbolt the amps.
All said and done it would be a seriously PITA and time consuming uninstall.

Did you clear an area on the trunk floor of paint and then screw the straps to the floor itself? Does the screw penetrate through the trunk floor to the outside of the vehicle? Any problems there?
Those raises on the firewall must work great for that? A kind of spacer. If I ever intended to put ICE in my car that would make a great location, doing like you did jordan. Putting the hardware behind the seat.
White chocolate, off topic but is Folsom Lake large enough for powered watercraft like Jet Skis and such? I was thinking of someplace different for Vacation in CA this year.
yes the floor was ground to bare metal for the strap location, yes it penitrates the trunk floor, no there is really nothing under the car in the area i went through, always look first tho.

Yes, its huge. The only problem is its a dry recreation area (no booze). We've had a ton of rain and snow this year, so it should be at a pretty high level this summer. The nice part about it is there are some really nice back water areas off the main lake that get really, really calm later in the day. Its like skiing on glass. Plus, the days are so hot you can stay on the water till sundown and not get cold because the air temp will still be so high. Its a great place to spend the day.

alternator whine is generally tied to a bad ground, or ground loop so you're on the right track.
You want to make your ground lead as short as possible and if you have mulitiple amps, ground them to the same spot. Always attach the ground the bare metal. If you aren't sure you have a good ground spot, use a multimeter to test that spot to the battery or other power source. (easy to do in an E30 with the battery in the trunk)

You probably already did this, but make sure that your RCAs aren't running along the right side of the car, where the main power wires are for the alternator.

Wives tale. I have never seen the running of any decent RCA's be a problem. Shit I've seen RCA's run down the right side of e30's (where the double 0ga battery wire runs) without a problem.

Good to know. Come to think of it, my RCAs are pretty cheap monster cables, so they probably don't have very good shielding.

bullshit. ive taken my RCA's and layed them across my batt. cable. no whine but the sound level decresed drastically. and dont tell me im wrong, try it for yourself.
