New iPhone to a CDM 9803?

So I have this Alpine CDM 9803 in my dash. It's.... ok for now. Just got this shiny new iPhone. Man I'd love to play my iTunes library in my e30...... Especially now that I have all 4 of my PPI speakers in.

I guess (from looking up an owners manual) that my Alpine HU uses an (8 pin DIN connector) M-Bus for a CD changer.

Local shop wants 275 installed and that would be a dock in a piece of plastic that replaces the ashtray. I'm sure they said it would charge the phone at the same time. Then I was thinking I was getting lazy and I should just do it myself. Man there a lot of cables out there. Nothing that says that it will connect to my CDM 9803 specifically.

What do I need to connect to this old dinosaur (2003)?

I was in the same boat as you when I wanted to run my MacIntosh HU & still use my iPhone. The solution I went with was a new JVC KD-A815 ($240 shipped). http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...l+KD-A815.html I can run the iPhone with either Bluetooth (external mic included for the phone operation) or a USB port. I dropped a USB line in the crevice underneath the OBC. Clean install & the color matches the dash (setting #14).

Kenwood eXcelon x993 or x994 will do iPhone integration + Bluetooth and lets you change the display color to match.

I have one in my HHR and love it.

I wouldn't count on it charging the phone. My CDA-9857 used to charge my phone, but one of the new firmware updates fucked it up. I'm on 3.1.2 and it doesn't charge my phone anymore. Gives me some message saying "this accessory was not designed for the iPhone". :(

I took a gamble and ordered a iSimple iS75 Universal iPod and 3.5mm Auxiliary input Adapter and a PIE KCM-122B (ALP/M-RCA) Auxiliary Input Adapter for select Alpine M-BUS Radios. (Cut and pasted the products so the sentence sounds weird.)

Let's see how this works. Says it will charge the new 5V iPhone 3GS.

It all works as advertised. Charges and everything.
