^ Is this a generic harness/adapter that you can get at any stereo installation shop when doing the install, or something particular that I would need to order/purchase to take with me prior to the install?

Now, get this: it does not have the pin necessary to make an IPod interface work, so if you plan on using an iPod with it, grab the harness at a junkyard.

^Wow Thanks Luke, that was fast. I did not have plans to run an iPod but maybe should not rule it out by installing the adapter that does not allow it. What do you mean by "Grab the harness at a junkyard"?
Also, I read some others threads that came up during my search and I noticed when people asked about the proper harness to use they specified the year and model of their car. Not sure why this is but thought it will be best I guess to include that my car is a 1990 325i, no tweeters, so I assume no amp (will check when I get home). Also I am in Canada if that makes any difference, as I noticed some people specified US spec or not.
Thanks again.

I can answer for luke on this one :)
it depends on if you have the speaker fader or not as the harness (if getting from the dealership) come in two different versions
they charge an arm and a leg though, think like 70 dollars
also, I can sell you the one luke linked you to if you are interested. its brand new (came with my CD43) so let me know if you!
^ Thanks Charles. I will PM you regarding the harness. Only problem for me is I bought the car and it had a aftermarket deck in it already so how can I find out if I "had" the speaker fader or not?

If it already has aftermarket, no worries on the BMW harness, get the aftermarket one unless you plan on an iPod box with it.

^ Thanks. Ya it has a Sony (I think) tape deck in it at the moment. I want to remove it and install the OEM CD43 unit I have. So I guess it doesn't matter which of the two different harness' I get to make the CD43 compatible? Thanks, sorry for the confusion, I am terrible with wiring or car audio issues.

BTW: if my PM made perfect sense to you, please post it up here.
Ya it did help alot, thanks. Here it is:
"OK: IF you plan on running only the deck with no iPod interface or auxiliary input (meaning newer than '95 CD43 too) feel free to use the aftermarket cable.
IF you are gonna add the ipod/aux input, go to the junkyard and find an E36 (or whatever) newer than 1996 to grab your harness from.
Chop off at least 8" of the decks wiring (called a pigtail in laymans terms) AND grab the CD changer cable from the trunk forward.
I hope that explains it better."
I'm going to go to the wrecker next week, hopefully a late model E36 is in the yard with the deck in it. Take it out and chop off atleast 8 inches of the wiring behind it and take that with you along with a CD Changer cable if it's still there.
Is there any other car it can be taken out of (Ie. Early E39 or any E38) if there are no E36's in the yard? or only late model E36?
Thanks Again
