    Where to listen to speakers?

What's a better place to listen to speakers? Big chain store - do they even have them anymore - or did that go away with circuit city? The little mom and pop car stereo store?

If you were going to listen before you buy - where would you go?

(I'm already planning on bringing a CD or two that I know well to listen to)

Why not start at a small independent stereo shop?

Start with the pros, right? See if you can find some of the little boutique speakers that are happening at lower price points and really listen. I bet you will be suprised.

Do you have a copy of Jennifer Warnes "Bird on a Wire"?

Jennifer Warnes "Bird on a Wire"? Let me see here - should be right over here by my dentures. No - that's my pile of coupons for x-lax. Hmmmm - I don't see it anywhere. Is that out on 8-track yet, or can I still pick it up on wax cylinder?

        Haha.

But yeah, visit as many little shops as possible.

Don't forget you need to put your ear right next to the speaker and turn it all the way up. Its the only way to know if they're good or not.

Just pop in your zip code here and some local dealers should pop up. If they carry arc, they are gonna carry some other good brands. You could try this with rainbow audio, nakamichi, focal etc.
