When you turn your headlights on, the display dims.

On my 805, the display can be different colors for day or night. I initially had it set for all orange but had problems reading the orange in bright daylight.



I changed the daytime display to a custom combination as close to white on black as I could get for the contrast. Then realized that the dash was white on black during the day, and my obsessive compulsive radio display fetish was sated...

I bought a JVC KD-A815 based off of Luke's recommendation on the KD-R900. JVC changed the design a bit, but the guts are the same according to Sonic Electronix. I really love this thing. Truly great sound, orange color matches just fine, and I love the fact that my iPhone works seamlessly with it. The external mic is a really nice feature. Only one gripe: to change sub output level you must scroll through 3 menus. It shouldn't be hurried that far down IMHO

Finally got the chance to install and play with the JVC KD-R900.

First, it looks just fine. Maybe a little gaudy (sorry for the phone pics) but considering what the guys who design car stereos think we want, this at least doesn't suck:



But pretty decent, especially compared to what other affordable choices are out there.

When you turn your headlights on, the display dims. This shows just how perfect the "default" orange is. I am sure someone could fine tune a custom color, but this would be OK by me any day.



Sorry for the red LED above the deck, that is because Scytek alarms generally keep the LED on when the doors are open to show the system is working properly. You can change that, but I like it.

This thing is great. Terrific controls, menus well designed, adequate in every way...except the bastards didn't provide a dedicated power antenna output.

I used a unused switch from a previous install to control the antenna so it need only be up for radio, but down for all other use.
