    Running 6.5's without sub?

I have a convertible, so as we all know a sub is pretty much out of the question to get any reasonable sound.

Either way, I only want to be able to "hear" the bass. It doesn't need to hit hard or be all present, I just want to know that it's there and I'd be satisfied.

Would 6.5's in the door's be good enough for this? (Looking at Exile XT65's)

You can get good midbass down to maybe 60hz with good components, power AND INSTALL. Lots of sound deadening and good solid install will be key. The issue is with any convertable you are playing sound into basically open environment, so it takes extra effort.

I haven't used Exile stuff before, but one example Image Dynamics Chameleon CXS62 components hit pretty hard and low.

Top down? No, don't waste your time. You will pop speaker after speaker and piss off your dealer no end.

Maybe if you had the ability of doing a 12db/oct high pass with a slope "Q" of about 1.3 at say 45hz...but nothing sold today will do that affordably.

Grab a pair of Kenwood "thin" 8" woofers and a roll of Dynamat and a good 5 channel amp. Use the 5th channel to run the woofers in the doors, then use all 6 stock locations.

Properly set up, that could sound really really good...it is all about the install.

      Closing SOON!

Would I be putting in 5.25" speakers in the stock locations? (tweeter obviously in stock location) This sounds like a solid idea, but would those 2 8's in the doors provide adequate imaging?

Yeah, kinda. The stock location, if used only above about 150hz works out pretty well for staging

Dude I make some 6.5 speaker pods out of the map pockets. The sound quality is far better than stock but I'm basing it on using a component setup. As far as bass I'm guessing a 6.5 is not going to get you what you're looking for. I would suggest maybe you could try a 6.5 sub but my speaker pods aren't deep enough.

I'm running a Pioneer Head Unit to new (but stock) Pioneer Speakers all around. And put in a TIS Audio Sub/Amp kit (700 watt amp, 300 watt sub, running the speakers to the rest of the amp) and sounds pretty darn good! Not too crazy, and definitely a bump up from stock, I too was looking for the bass "to just be there" but not rediculous. Can still hear/decent quality at 60 mph top down. Plus TIS--> EBAY SPECIAL! 100 beans for the kit :) running strong for a year now. just my opinion!
