Best 2 or 3 way mids for the money?

Negative, they are very shallow the TypeS 6.5" are.

you may get away with a slight spacer?

Good speakers, MUCH better with an Amp. 10x better with an Amp over the headunit.

a sub would be the go, in the long run if you listen to it loudish the speakers aren't really "bassy"

does the 6.5 mount in the kick panel without modifications?

I was hoping to use speakers that will drop in and won't require new wiring etc. Can I do that with a component set?

yes it drop right in, once your car already has the premium sound with the tweeter pods otherwise just get 4 of the alpines
