Anybody have this Kenwood? would love some feedback

Been thinking about this head unit:

It's the right price, looks decent, sounds pretty good, and has a nifty little USB connection in the front. so I don't have to use those obnoxious radio transmitter things for my ipod.

The gentleman at the store said that the unit wouldn't go with my wiring and I would have to do some wire splicing. Tough job? First time head unit changer, here.

I've always been a fan of Kenwood head units, mostly the Excelon stuff. I've installed a head unit from this line for a customer and he has been very pleased with it over the last year. As long as you aren't a hard core audiophile this head unit should do everything you need.

I would jump up to the x493 or x494 if you want this years model. Same overall setup but just their nicer line. I LOVE the 492, 493 and 494(I have had one of each). Everytime I get a new ride I put the newest version in.

X493(last years model) on eBay from an authorized seller for ~100 shipped.

kenwood...sigh they look terrible. i am an installer, and while the kenwood units do sounds pretty good, they look like shit and break knobs/overheat very often. i have stopped pushing those units.

I got the new KiV BT900 and it is great. I don't have cd anymore and this thing rocks the iPhone. I can also chain a USB mem stick and have gigs more library. Sounds great!

This is true... I've never had a problem with this because I always install them for customers with at least a sub amp. Then you can back a lot of the power hungry frequencies out of the interiors and never worry about overheating. I have yet to have one overheat on a customer after an install...
