    Electric Sunroof Question..

    Hi all!

I have an 'issue' that I thought i'd throw out there incase it isn't an issue at all.

When I open and close my sunroof, it will come to a point where I have to release the button and press it again to finish the open/close sequence.

So it I want to open the roof,
I have to press the button>it makes a click(stops)> then i press again and it tilts up.
If I have to open fully, I press the button and the sunroof tilts down and opens about 30mm, then clicks(stops), I then have to release the button and press again to complete the process.

Is this some sort of safety 'breaker' feature?
Or is there something not right...?

    =)

The motor doesn't know when to stop, so there is a cam on the motor that hits a momentary switch, that goes to a relay, and cuts off power while the button is held. So your electronics are working as they are suppose to. The problem is, is that the cam/motor is not aligned (for lack of a better word) with the sunroof. I think there is a write up (japandrew did it?) for how to sync the two up. I've never done it...just what I've read.

I'm sure better minds will chime in.

No, what has happened here is that the cables have stretched. If you look at the drive cables for the sunroof, you will see it is a multi stranded wire with a single strand of wire wrapped around it to make a gear.

If you pull the cable all the way out, you will see the tooth spacing is farther apart near the front...because the teeth moved, basically. Either way, it is enough to make it crappy to close, just like mine was.

When you hit the switch, the motor spins a predetermined amount of rotations, then shuts off. No fancy position indicators/electronic bullshit, just a switch on a gear.

What I did to fix mine was to spin the motor until it stopped, remove it, close the roof fully and reinstall the motor.

Soon as I have spare money/time/lack of important project, I am gonna grab new cables. Should last until I die, basically.

Ahhh. Cables stretched. Hmm. Well that would get it out of sync. See, I was right Luke-ie-poo!
