Stock Radio ('86 325e) no worky

I test drove the car and it was fine. On the way home after buying it nothing. I was messing a little with it tonight and noticed I can hear some sort of beep noise coming from the rear spks when I turn it on and off but no sound at all from known good stations for my area. Any suggestions?
