    Stupid But Serious Questions

Ok, here it goes. i have a 1990 325is and i want to add a little kick to the current speaker setup. Everything is stock and i have the premium system. I kno that only a certain amount of power goes to each speaker but if you combine the wires from two speakers to another speaker does that give you twice the power. i want to disconnect the two woofers on the rear shelf (no the tweeters) and wire them to a maybe 700 or 800wtt woofer even though a stock head unit isnt puttin out that much juice. Can i do this just as a temporary thing cause all my money is goin toward other stuff at the moment???HELP!

For kicks I took my old sub from my home theatre and put it in the trunk and hooked it up to my trunk mounted battery. For the connection i pulled the line off one of the speakers with some tiny ass wire, wasnt any bigger headphone wire but it sounded good. but runnning those wires to a bigger speaker isnt gonna get you any louder, thats why you need an amp too.

        In a word, no.

Remember: "there is no free lunch"

It is an all-powerful truth in the universe.

Your stock premium sound speakers are as good as you are going to get with no money to invest. Remember, BMW sold that premium system as the end all be all for the ultimate driving machine. If they could have gotten better bass by just adding bigger speakers, they would be in there. Live, be happy.

Notwithstanding the solution mentioned by the Dude, which was an admirable attempt at "free" bass using discarded home stereo equipment, The cheapest, easiest, new plug and play solution for better quality bass in an e30 is what has been nicknamed the "luke box". With a cheap amp and speaker, you are looking somewhere around $350. If you can score one, as Luke does the boxes as a labor of love, to order, in batches.

Sit tight, save your money, and start listening to talk radio where the bass doesn't really matter anyway, until you can afford better. It is worth the wait.

Of course, if you have a home theater sub sitting around that fits in the trunk, its worth a shot.
