What specs should I be looking for in a sub for the 10" box?

    Cubic feet?
    qts?
    Fs?

I am looking at the W1v2 now because I already have an old sony amp that will work great with it. Qts looks decent at .405, and it visualy looks good which is important. I am looking for smooth bass and this box is my last stand to get decent car audio without spending a ton of money.

Ah srew it! I found another amp laying around that will power a 10w3v3. I will just get one of those, it can't sound too bad.

Dude, sorry, I slacked on your questions.

Airspace is 1.5 cubic feet gross.

        Ports are 2) 3" X 15", tuning is about 35Hz.

Any woofer near .4Qts or below will sound great, but especially if the Fs of the woofer is well under 30Hz

Hmmm, maybe the W1 is all I need then. Lower qts and 25 Fs vs 31.5. AH! I hate car audio. With home audio I can go in and listen in a nice room to see what I like but with car audio its just in a box in a big store, its all hit or miss.

All I want is good SQ and not boomy. I don't need it loud, I turn up the bass sometimes, but nothing like most people these days. Any recommendations between the W1 and W3? I am only looking at JL because they seem to take a little more care with their products (could be wrong), and I have 8" JL's that are decent I guess.

^If you aren't a bass head go with the W1 and save yourself some $$$. JL makes decent stuff but it is waaaaaaaaaayy overpriced.

You can pick up some RE Audio or Ascendant stuff for cheaper and it's been better in my experience.

Keep in mind it is all about the amp/woofer/box interface.

If you ask me to pick a woofer that you can buy new today, I am gonna say the Infinity Reference. I will take that over any other woofer if SQ is the main worry, especially if loud boom isn't the goal.

This is my main confusion with all of this. I am sure many people are wondering this as well if they want SQ rather then thump in the trunk. Finding a sub that fits nicely in all the desired specs is pretty hard to do. Example, the JL W1 vs the Infinity 1062W. The JL has better qts and fs, but is supposed to be used with smaller boxes around 1 cubic-ft. The Inifinity however says around 1.75 cubic feet. I don't know what features is more important. I know it is a lot more then just numbers, but its the only starting point.

Maybe I should just get the 1062W. Hell it's only $99 and if you say it works great in the box that is all I need to know.

Thanks for the help too, I ask too many questions!

The 1062 is DVC: do you want a 2 ohm load? The 1030 or 1060 are both great choices for single 4 ohm load.

Good catch. Yeah, looks like the 1060 would be my option. I have a 250W 4ohm amp that will work good with it.

Even if that 250 RMS is crap power it will STILL kick ass. Clean, detailed terrific sound quality bass, with plenty of "slam".
