I just did my buds a few weeks ago and I don't remember it being terribly difficult. If I remember right you need to unscrew the cover and everything should pull right off.

How do you unscrew it? I don't see any screws on top.

Do I have to go from inside the trunk?

I'd check but none of my cars have them. I just remember having to find a short screwdriver so the rear window didnt get in the way while unscrewing the pods.

You have to use a small eyeglass screwdriver first to pop the black mesh grilled off, and then you'll be able to get to the 4 screws holding the hole assembly down, or the screws for just the speakers.
