    325i sound project

Installed a headunit(Pioneer DEH P7000BT) I had laying around and I think its time I replace the kick panel speakers that don't work

I have a JL 10w6v2 in a junky box that I've used in the past with its own amp in the trunk. I replaced the rear deck speakers with oem premium speakers for now.

Im looking at a few sets of components and im open for other recommendations.

Iv liked DA in the past and these look nice but the flange thickness might be an issue

So far I think these are the best option

I think my headunit only puts out 22w or 50w per speaker would it be a good idea to get an amp for all the components?

I've used infinity references with great success in my e30's. Also used the very old rockford fanatic q's with good results but those are impossible to find now.

If you listen really loud or windows down on the highway and want any midbass at all then you will need to amp the components. If you are going to let your sub carry the lows and as many of the mids as possible you can get away with deckpower on the interiors.

I am running 5.25" infinity references with deck power and have a luke box with a 12" RE Audio sub in it and the sound quality is just lovely.

Yeah you need to amplify some mids in your doors. Here's what I did and the difference was ridiculous. So loud and so nice.

see if you can find a local place that sells Audison/Hertz. They are the best dollar for dollar speakers on the market right now anywhere. I would put their 250 component set up against any other manufactures components priced under 550.00.

Ended up going with the infinity reference 5030CS

I don't have much experience with speakers but build quality seems good.

here is a comparison to stock kick panel speakers. As you can see the cone does stick out significantly over stock, they fit in perfect but have not had a chance to put the kick panel back on

^They won't clear the kick... I usually mount them on the outside of the kick, grille-less. Not for everyone, but I like the look... and I don't have to worry about my speaker hitting the kick panel. Also the grille doesn't block any of the sound... helps even out the horrible overpowering rear speaker problem e30's are prone to.

the grille looked out of place in the e30 (maybe with out the silver ring it might have worked)

I decided to buy some spacers so the kick panel would not hit the speaker

it seems fine but the final test will be full volume

where did you guys mount the crossovers? I put one in the glove box for now and the second under the steering somewhere

Ya, the grilles aren't the prettiest thing in the world. That's why I run them without any and just use black screws. I've never had anyone kick one of my mids (of course it will happen tomorrow now) and cause any damage.

As for crossovers, I either stuff them under the carpet in the footwells... or tuck them into the speaker "compartment". Using the kick panel and mounting the speakers on the outside opens up some room for the Xovers in there.

Did you use the attenuation feature or not? I usually don't as I just use my Xover network in the head unit to even things out if need be. I was just curious.

Does that really work Luke... even amped (say 50wrms)? I guess the excursion isn't that much... but never thought about spacing out the kick like that. Any pics with kick panel on?

Yes, in fact, since you are gonna wanna run a sub and use those speakers in high pass (figure 120Hz at 12db/oct or 100Hz at 18db/oct) they really aren't gonna move all that much.

The stock panel fits right back on, but with a little stretching, so it really looks stock for all intents.

The bitch is getting the spacer on the screw behind the panel on the 4th screw.
