    JVC Head unit install problems...

I lost my e30 wiring chart and I've been trying to get this head unit to work. If I hit one of two buttons (disp, source) it will blip on for 4~ seconds and shut back off.

Does anyone know which wires are which? I'm not using the stock speaker wire because the previous owner ran wires for them from an amplifier, so I only need the illumination/12v/12v acc/blah blah blah.

rocking some JVC's in the front and Blankputs in the rear. No sub yet, I've slacked on the box.

If anyone could tell me which color is which I would be very happy. I'm gonna take the deck back to the store tomorrow to see if its a problem with that instead.

gotta postpone my trip to cali until next weekend... what a disappointment :(

Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't too far off after all.

Took the head unit back and it mysteriously works, had the guy take off the security screws so I could remove the face plate...

      New problem!

RPM based hiss/whine from the speakers. They sound great when the car is off, but when I'm cruising around at 3k rpm it gets kind of annoying.

      System goes

JVC KD-R610 > Aux out > Passenger side footwell to trunk > Amp (4/3/2 ch sony) > Speakers (JVC front, blaupunkt rear.)

Amp is connected to the positive terminal in the trunk and also grounded in the trunk but not to the battery terminal.

I'm gonna try changing up the ground, is there any other reason that I'd get that kind of noise?

      EDIT:

I wonder if I'd be better off running any or all of these speakers from my head unit instead.

I've got a fosgate P2002 and a sony xplod 10" waiting for a box and a hole in the trunk bulkhead... I haven't had the time or space to put one together, tho.

UPDATE again... After I messed with the connections in the trunk, the hiss is gone!? I didn't even replace any wires, just plugged in my RCA connector for the front channel.
