    Fuel gauge freaking out!

A couple of weeks ago my fuel gauge started tripping out after i put some low quality gas in it (I almost always use chevron). It happened as soon as i turned the car on after putting in a few bucks of gas. The needle began shooting from empty to full and back and forth very rapidly then calmed down, only to start freaking out again when there was a lot of vibration in the car. This went on for a week or so until the needle stopped freaking out indefinitely and remains between 3/4 and full tank. It does drop to 1/2 at points but usually rest at 3/4.
A buddy and I worked on it today. This is what we did; First we removed the cluster and cleaned the brass nuts on the back of the fuel gauge as well as the ground wire connectors by the foot peddles. No luck. Next we removed the fuel gauge from my original cluster (note: the previous owner swapped out the original cluster because the odo stopped working and gave me the original) and swapped it for the one in my current cluster. No luck. We took out my back seat to look at the access points for the fuel sensors but we didnt really know what we were doing so we left it alone in fear of fucking shit up.
I would also like to mention that my light for my left turn signal on the cluster was out before we removed the cluster. We thought we would replace the bulb while we were at it. We couldn't get the light to work with any of the working bulbs on hand so it probably has something to do with the circuit board.
I'm stumped and don't now what else do. Can any one help me with my Satanic Fuel Gage?

fuel gauge circuit is the simplest one of the bunch in the cluster. what year/model car do you have? some have two senders and some have 1.

the problem is with either the cluster/gauge or the sender(s) or wiring . get the ETM for your car and it will make sense on how it works.
