    Basic sub/amp set up?

I'm not an audiophile by any means. Half of the time i'm not in the car long enough to turn the radio on or have the radio turned off and I listen to the engine BUT, when the radio is on I would like to have a little "depth"

The PO has some alpine speakers in the car that does pretty good in what I would call the mid to high area but there is no good bass from these speakers. They actually do pretty well on the highway with the windows down as well. I would like to ad a basic sub and a basic amp to fill it out and give it some more low end. Any thoughts on a decent inexpensive set up for me?

Also, I am generally more of a rock/alternative type listener but, on long trips I'll venture into the pop/rap area for some variety so that hard hitting, hear me from the other side of the parking lot bass is not my goal... I want it for personal enjoyment.

    Thanks :-)

how much do you wanna spend??

based on the music you listen to primarily, go with a single 10".

Not a ton. But then again, I don't know what the general "good" and "stay away from" brands are...

For numbers purpose I guess around $300ish? I remember seeing on Crutchfield.com a Rockford Fosgate powered sub that had a 150watt amp and an RF 12in sub in the box already for like $200. Would that be suitable for me? Or is there a better option?

I installed one of this for my girl the other day, gotta to say I was surprised! Not the hardest hitting thing out there by any meens, but if your looking for low end fill there u go

If you do one of my 10" boxes and an Infinity Reference 1030W and any cheap little 2 channel amp it will destroy that Fosgate setup for around the same money.

better still, get a small 4 channel amp, use half to run the bass and the other half to run the front speakers. Later, get a bigger 2 channel to run the bass and move that 4 channel to front and rear, or just MAJOR front.

            Here are advantages:

            1. NO rattles. My boxes force the bass inside the car, so your trunk will not rattle.

            2. Clarity. To me, it is obvious that bass thumping around in your trunk will not sound as good as bass in your cabin only...and my boxes are designed specifically to work with the E30 acoustics, so clarity, detail, impact and depth are maximized.

            3. It FITS the car. My boxes are designed to precisely fit the trunk of the E30. When installed, they take very little of the usable trunk.

Just so you know, even the tiny little POS $50 walmart amp sounds great with the Infinity woof in one of my boxes...efficiency is one of my biggest goals. You do not need huge power, even if you are looking to make some pretty big thump. The Infinity is only a suggestion: there are many many woofers that will do amazing things in these boxes.

100% of the sound is in the car, so no power is wasted. To me, that is the logical solution.
