Weird question about head unit connectors

Is there a standard connector that all companies use or is it proprietary bullshit? I spent all day last Saturday hooking up my old Alpine head unit in my 84 325e and after some drama it looks like I'm not keeping the car. So my friend has an old Kenwood to put in the car. I don't want to leave my Alpine in it so I want to swap it for the Kenwood, but I don't feel like having to splice on a new connector.

Is it plug and play or will I have to do some wiring?

BTW, the Kenwood is in a car right now, hence me making this thread. ;)

I'm not 100% sure but i believe they will be different and a new harness will be needed.

Goddammit. I friggin hope not, it was a bitch trying to put the Alpine one on since the wires coming from the car were so damn short. It'd suck to have to cut them even shorter and do it all again. :hitler:
