    New stereo, has engine-speed whine

I installed a new deck and front speakers yesterday and now I have a faint whine which increases with engine speed. I used the factory wiring for the deck, including ground but ran new wire for the front speakers. They are coaxials with external crossovers, the crossovers came with wiring already attached so I just used that.

My plan was to start by finding a better ground and checking to see if the speaker wire runs next to any power wires, but I'm lazy and want to get advice before I pull the deck out.

    Any ideas?

If your car is premium sound you will probably need to bypass your factory amp.

Quick note where 100% of everyone screws up, including so-called "Pro" installers:

Black stripe is POSITIVE...but unless you got into the harness after the fader, you never saw a black stripe.

Go find the sticky, read it, try it, you might get lucky.

When you say black stripe, what wires are you talking about? The factory harness, or the aftermarket speaker wiring?

I did my install using your sticky. I only hooked up front speakers, they are Memphis coaxial 5.25's with external crossovers. The crossovers came with speaker wiring already attached, which I ran straight to the back of the deck.

I used the factory BMW wiring for power, acc, and ground.

I was feeling lazy today so I didn't pull the deck out and mess with anything, but tomorrow I may try a different ground. That and I'll check to see where I routed the speaker wire to make sure its not running alongside and power wires.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I feel like I must not be the first e30 owner to deal with this!
