never let rent a cop jump your car!!!!

So yesterday I get to work and like a dumbass leave my running lights on for 10 hours while I am in work. I work at mall so when I got out to my car to start it i realized my mistake and had the idea to wait for the mall security to patrol by. Sure enough after not long he comes by, I tell him my dilemma. He says no problem I have a jump box in back, happens all the time. So I procede to open my trunk which perplexed the living shit out of him. I explained the battery is in back he chuckled than told me to get in the car and try to start it when he have me the go ahead. So relieved I got in the car, he gave me the signal nothing happened. Than he felt the words and they were hot as fuck. I told him he had hooked it up backwards. Me now pissed off proceeded to hook it up the right way and start my car. Of course before all of this started I had to sign a release form. (Now I know why) my odometer radio clock and warning lights on my "heads up display" were on or not working at all. I was superpissed on the rode home thinking my car was totally fucked and up shit creek. Luckily I called one of my good friends who is a land ever tech, he said to check the fuses. And sure enough fuse 24 was blown put a new one in and all seems well. Everything is apparently working. I am so happy. Is there anything else I should check to make sure everything is in good standing on my car. Again all seems well but I wanna check everything. Lmk what else to check. Is this a usually result? Or does it normally fuck you bigtime? Thanks for any input.

How should i jump it if not from the rear? My understanding was you hooked up to the battery terminal?

answer me why? is it not good to jump a car on the cars source of power instead of the jumper spot in the front?

i can see easier starting because overall resistance in the cable running to the front of the car, yet you say its bad...why?

It will start fine, the starter pulls a lot of current but 0 gauge wire Is like .3 ohms per kilometer, which works out to be like .002ohm full circuit in an e30. At 500amps you're only going to drop a volt over that.

I have hooked up a battery backwards to my car before (the terminals were reversed on the battery, it almost totally fucked me over). If the car still runs you are probably okay, there's a fusible link near the battery that you probably popped as well.

Batteries give off hydrogen gas which is of course highly explosive. In theory a spark between the cable clamps and your battery terminals could blow up you and your battery. That's why a lot of instructions involve connecting your ground cable clamp to a good ground away from the battery.

Hooking a battery up backwards puts a serious beating on your alternator. Might not be a bad idea to get it load tested at autozone or something to see if they cooked a diode.

                      1. mall security are not cops 2. same thing happened to me as well, but was in costco, and killed my alternator, so check that as well.
