my m42 alternator is out and i need want upgrade just for future reference. i did some research and not a real part number show up. can anybody lead me to the right direction?

Some of the early E36 318 ('95 and earlier IIRC - these still had the V-Belt instead of the serpentine) had an 105A alternator. You can get one of those used for ~$60 or so if you search around enough. I have one on my E30 M42 - its a direct swap - since I did the electric fan swap and have 2 audio amps. P/Ns are 12 31 1 734 558 and 12 31 1 734 322 - 1st one is the newer number.Last edited by vpilarrt; 01-31-2011, 01:45 PM.
