I love the stock unit, but...

I like the super clean oem look of my car, and I run ipod or phone off the tape deck, so it's perfect for me. The problem is, the speakers are original too (88iX)! I know it's a shot in the dark, but I know nothing about audio systems- if I have right rear static and intermitent other static, am I going to need to replace the whole system, or just the speakers? I'd hate to wire up a new set to the old unit just to have to yank everything apart again.

Probably just a bad amp, unless you are getting scratchy noises from your volume control.

    Closing SOON!

Old thread, but I am getting scratchy volume control. I have to move it back and forth to find a "sweet spot".

I have right rear static, with brand new head unit and 4 new speakers.

Theres nothing it could be but the orignal wiring is rotting somewhere. which totally make sense its been rained on just when ive owned it.

So you and I have nothing in common except the orignal wiring which looks heavy duty but mine is bad and yours can be too.

          The wiring actually failing?

          Highly unlikely.

Mine is just a touchy volume knob. Its quiet one second, then i go to adjust it a bit louder and nothing happens, then a little more and its blaring loud.

Volume control pot dirty or worn or?
