    Amp location

Hey everyone i'm new to this forum and haven't seen an article on the ideal place to mount a 4-chan amp. I recently picked up an 89 325i 4dr for cheap and I have a 4 chan amp lying around from a previous install but I can't really pick a spot to mount it haha. I was wondering if you guys could maybe throw up some pictures and info on your set ups? thanks!

Luke, is all that stuff made out of MDF? (the cosmetic covers, and what not)

Seems like someone would come up with a lighter material to work with. It's pretty and all, but I know that shit weighs a metric ton.

I put mine under the passenger seat. Of course this depends on how big your amp is and I wouldn't do it if you have the under seat heater ducts for the rear footwell (my 318is doesn't). I had to remove the rod (more of a steel wire) that connects the 2 sides of the seat fore/aft adjustment mechanism to gain vertical clearence so my passenger seat has to stay in 1 position but I never sit there anyway, lol.

George, I use a mixture of materials. most of those "pretty panels" shown above are 1/4" Masonite (AKA Tempered Hardboard). Generally, I only use MDF and masonite, sometimes a bit of bondo if I want a truly flawless "reveal" where 2 (or more) panels meet.

If I could find 1/4" MDF, that is what I would use. It is lovely to work with, but damn hard to find.

But yeah, if those panels were all MDF, that would add about 30 lbs. Holy crap that would get heavy!

I buy mine at Home Depot. Used to be pretty inexpensive for a 24x48 piece. Like $2.50 when I started installing. Now they are like $7 I think. Haven't bought in awhile... usually buy enough to last me a good while. All of my beauty boards are made out of 1/4" MDF.
