    Calling Luke:Vert Rear Seat Delete

    Hey Luke,
Is it possible that you would be interested in building a rear seat delete sub box for E30 vert owners? I am trying to use the Alpine or JL audio 10 inch shallow mount sub. Is it possible? How much? My shipping zip is 33434. I'm thinking mdf with custom cuts to fit the rear seat backrest. I am not removing the bottom section. No one rides in my back seat anyways. Please advise........................Thanks.............. .G.

How about you pull the seat bottom too, then we can build a "seat replacement" with a couple of cubbies in the bottom?

Are you familiar with the RX-7 cubbies? That kind of thing. We can even make them lock with the stock lock system.

On the front, we can do a little "lip" that comes over the false front and goes to the floor, so it looks built-in. The box itself would need to be angled both front and back, would be a pain in the butt, so it ain't gonna be cheap.

A single 10 or a single 12" right in the middle of the back with an inset custom cloth grille?

Maybe a cargo net on the floor, too?

Keep in mind, this would be a damn expensive install in a car stereo shop, in the range of $1200 in this area. I bet I can do something insanely cool for roughly half that, shipped.

Anyone else interested in this idea? I can start developing this soon, I believe I have a model I can use. I am going to have to have pretty serious interest though.

I was thinking about this too. I like the way the porsche rear seats are really just thin upholstery/padding covering the shell somewhat similar to the rx7. Maybe like this with the box in between the seats.

All new seats? I think that is past the scope of what I can mass produce, and will be VERY cost prohibitive.

Stereo. Minimalist rear seat delete please. I'm talking lightweight mdf covered in carpet. I was gonna build mine myself. But if you can do it I would be seriously interested. Basically I dont care for a rear seat but I don't want the uggo plain-ness.

Sure it could, but I won't.

My stuff has to sound good or no way.

Very true. I guess i misunderstood what you were saying about the rx7 cubbies. Still interested to see where this goes.

Yeah, that whole idea of basically designing the back of your car with nothing to go on but words is tough.

I am doing basically this same setup as a "1 off" for JParkr. The idea is that once a final design is done, I can grab a 'vert and perfect the fit, then make a bunch of templates and build off of that.

All kind of hard compared to what templates normally get used for, ie, kitchen counters and such. This is a more "dynamic" fitment, as every car has small irregularities and tiny differences...no 2 are exactly the same and my work has to fit all of them perfectly, from 2000 miles away, sight unseen, and using your hands to make my work fit perfectly.

Time will tell, huh? Lets see if I am as good as everyone seems to think I am.

Actually, I would not mind pulling the rear seat bottom as long as it has a good visual appeal. If i lived closer you could use my car as a template. I'm even thinking of pulling the rear speakers from the sides and mounting them in the mdf box on either side of the sub. This gives me the option of using 6x9's for my mids and highs or using components. Most of a verts sound goes right out into open air, but just being able to have quality sound in a drop top is a win win to me. Would you need to know what brand sub i will be using? I have checked with several shops in this area. The box build alone would be $400 to $600. Please advise asap. Thanks for the feedback.

I am sure Luke is up to the task. I just have never seen or heard of anyone doing a rear seat delete in an E30 vert. Stay tuned. This will be great.

i think life would be complete if this was developed.
right now my Type R subwoofer is in a single enclosure behind my seat.
