Yes, I can do 2 woofers, but since it is only a 3db gain with all else being equal, but takes twice the airspace and twice the weight and (far more importantly) does not sound as good, I will never do it as a production item.

Single woofers have only 1 time signature and cannot suffer from "time smear". They cannot have specific frequency phase cancellations, either. Sure seems like an assload of space and weight to get 3db..no thanks.

    Single woofers only for me.

But, if you want a custom box built, I will do pretty much whatever you want...for a price.

    Luke

Damnit Luke! I rarely ever listen to the radio and now I think I am going to have to budget some money for one of these for my build.

                Luke,

Just got my box installed.. but a few questions... i'm sure these have been answered before...

                1) how do you "secure" your box in the back of the e30, such that it wont move around?

                2) how much foam should i take out of my leather non ski-pass seat?

I use 4 screws around the ski pass hole, basically 1 at each "corner".

I generally take 3" or so of foam out.

                  How is it sounding?

Would a slide miter chop saw help things out a bit? ;) I can drop it off in the AM Monday if you're awake.

great so far.. but i have some rattles to iron out!... it seems as though after i take out my trunk tar, the box fits, but it wont fit with the trunk carpet.. The clearance on one side is too small.. probably due to some body filler in the trunk...

Does any body filler come in the factory?

So the 3" of foam should be the size of ski pass hole?

/edit... got it to fit perfect with the trunk carpet.. and took out some foam.. and it sounds great!!... gotta get rid of my license plate rattle.

No clue on final price yet, but should not be much more expensive than the 10" box.

I am thinking I want to make them as light as possible, so considering using 1/2" MDF with extra bracing...but SQ matters to me, this thing has to sound not just good but terrific, because I am a snob like that.

Busted sir. Picked up my first E30 about a month ago and I need some tunes. Been lurking for a while but I figured this gave me enough motivation to register and start posting.

Any recommendations on the specs of the sub for said box you are building? I need to start looking for something...

I am absolutely thrilled with the 10" Obcon "Sharktooth" woofer I got for $34. It plays deep, clean and very punchy, I love it. Power handling seems fine, but is makes plenty of bottom end with the 140 watts running it right now.
