driving stock amp through aftermarket head

As the title states, I'm going to attempt to run the factory amp through an aftermarket (pioneer DEH-1300MP) head unit.

I am planning on eliminating the stock fader, which if I read the ETM correctly, gives me pos and neg for both input channels (Left and Right).

for the fronts, this will be driving Pyle PLG5C setup (5 1/4 component, and tweeter) through the crossover that came with the speakers.

Rears for now will be stock replacement (I.E. shit) speakers, possibly through the amp as well, but I can run these separate through the headunit if I need to (prior owner has speaker cable already routed)

does this setup seem as if it will work, or is the internal wiring in the amp going to smoke the whole setup?

According to the ETM it should work, but I dont want to smoke my radio because the book is wrong, or my radio-fu is weak

Last question, how is the front/rear fade used with a factory amp? Is it through the factory headunit, or are there provisions for adjustment that I am not seeing?

No, you are running an aftermarket deck into a factory amp.

Use the decks speaker positives ONLY, do NOT use the speaker negatives. Simply insulate them, they are not needed in your install.

Now, what year is your car?

I dont have the head installed yet, so what is the best way to hook it up to the rest of the system?

Yeah, use the 4 speaker positives of your deck to the 4 positives of the fader harness, then put chassis ground to the brown/orange "input ground" of the amp, also on that fader harness. Make certain to connect the white wire (amp turn on) properly: if you have a blue/white on your aftermarket deck, use it.

Thanks Luke, system works beautiful. also took your advice and got a real subwoofer. I HAS BASS!!!!!!

on a different note, what if any is the benefit/problem with running a 400 watt amp with a speaker rated for 1000w?

I get plenty of bass out of it, but am I gonna meltdown the amp doing it, or is the amp just not going to work up to the potential of the sub?

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. As long as you don't mess with the settings too much or put it an area where it can't properly ventilate. Like I said, I'm not an expert so don't believe my word 100%

"1000w" sub will be "peak" rating... 400w of the amp is hopefully RMS?

did a bit of research on this, and I appear to be fine.

This is the amp I'm running

                Rated at 160w bridged RMS

The sub is a Poineer TS-W253R rated for 200w RMS. This is in a cheapie Walmart Scosche box (sorry Luke, but you dont have a cabrio box yet......)

It appears I will burn up the amp before I hurt the sub.
