    Need head unit suggestions

So, when I bought my car it had a crappy kenwood cd deck. I want to upgrade to something with aux and hd radio at a minimum. I would really like streaming Bluetooth as well. From what I have seen, you either spend $100 and buy a shitty dual or $300and get top of the line to get these features. Should I drop the Bluetooth as unnecessary? With the price of addon modules being ridiculous, I figure if I want it, I should buy it upfront. Anyone have any suggestions?

Aside: Car has some pioneer speakers in it now. Came in the car. I have 4 infinity 2ways from my previous e30 I could change them to.

I've had good luck with Clarion and Alpine's bluetooth equipped decks. Neither will look great in an e30 though. My Clairion was <$200, but I have >$300 in the Alpine.

Best bet for BT stuff that has a nice color match and good performance is a JVC, either KD-R900 or KD-R815, they are the same deck.

If you don't care about BT or HD (or sat) chcek the Pioneer DEH 6300 or DEH 63. Great color match, nice useability, but limited features.

What about JVC KD-HDR70? I hate that the Bluetooth is a $70 addon, but otherwise it seems nice?

Forget what everyone else says. I just bought this for my car and it wins hands down!
          Kenwood KDC-X995
Built in parametric Eq and detailed crossovers. Perfect for coax or stock e30 system. It's a perfect color match minus the shiny black of the unit itself but it has about 22 different color transitions. I love it. Built in HD and BT. Can't do any better. they can be had for about $200 at a local discount audio place

Anything as long as it glows a nice red colour, and has USB support and 3x high voltage preouts is good in my books.

Ok, well... What about the unit i suggested? Any opinions? I dont understand why the media ones (what i really want) are more expensive. I would think the manufacturers would be pushing dropping the cd player.

I would like to see them take that cd slot off the front... A few years ago that was the direction, they seemed to all be flip ones... But now, most have the slot.

that deck you posted is basically the same as the flip face I have, only mine has 5V preouts, high and low pass filters, and very nice bluetooth. I say the extra $40 or whatever is way worth it.

Oh no, it lights up red. You can change the color. I'll post a pic. Looks very stock at night!

I really like my Alpine 105 (had a 103bt before), but it's not an ideal match like say CD43.

I had a real POS silver Sony MP3 player from the PO. He had the whole car speakers re-wired so it's not that goofy factory setup. I upgraded to this

I made sure to go with one that has the same rear wiring harness, so all I had to do when I got the new deck, was unplug the old deck, and slide the new one in it's place using the same mounting sleeve. I changed the trim ring to the one supplied and that was it! the easiest stereo install I ever did on a car!!!

I then took the old one and put it into the new stereo's box with the uncut, new wiring harness and sold it for 60 bucks (2/3's the price of the new one) to someone on CL. He was stoked as he was getting the manuals and the wiring harness for his prelude....Everyone came out happy :) and i have a new deck that closly matches the e30 dash lights. If you want a simple, reliable and versatile deck that looks decent and has good sound, I really can't recommend anything better, esp. for the price
