    Head unit gets "tired?"

I have a Kenwood KDC-MP145 HU in my car. When I have it on moderately loud for a long period of time (have to have it loud, straight pipes :( ), the audio quality significantly dies down and it becomes rather crackling and no bass. The only solution is to put the volume a little down for a small period of time, then I could "blast" it again. This is at volume 26 out of a max of 35 on the HU. What could be the deal? It's almost as if it just gets tired from a long sprint or something..

Likely it's overheating. A proper external amp would probably rectify that, as well as give you better sound.

Either the magnets/coils in the speakers are heating up (which causes static/distortion/poor bass production) or the actual built in amp is overworking. I'd bet the speakers could be causing the HU to work a bit so start with new speakers, then amp, then head unit if no avail...

The speakers are new, the HU is new. I'm going to guess I'm going to need an external amp. Thanks man!

oddly enough, my kenwood displays on the HU screen when there is a short and stops functioning until it's fixed.
