Premium sound - should I bother?

I brought this question up on my introduction thread here. I have an '87 325 with the basic 4 speaker sound package. It sounds awfully tinny and I can barely hear the front two speakers. I like my tunes while I drive - and it's important to me that I have something usable and decent.

Should I just simply replace the speakers with new 5.25" speakers and put in a good head unit? Or should I go for the premium sound package and try to retrofit it in my car?

I'd appreciate some good, somewhat affordable recommendations. Oh, and I know nothing about car audio. So please forgive my noobness.

I'm in the same boat man. Not really going in the premium direction however. I just bought these speakers (which were recommended by luke) http://www.amazon.com/PLG5C-5-25-Inc...0530357&sr=1-1

Not really sure where to go now though.

Well I actually brought up the same question in that thread I linked and I was told this:

You could also use one of my subwoofer boxes and an inexpensive 10" woofer, you would run the bass and the front speaker from the amp...that combo sounds absolutely amazing and is still upgradeable.
Are you going to put those tweeters on the doors where the premium sound tweeters would normally go?

You don't really even need PS sail panels if you have a hole saw the right size:

I bought those pyle speakers I mentioned in my last post, and am now thinking of buying my friends alpine type s 10'' sub along with this amplifier http://www.crutchfield.com/S-sUhzLRX...-MRV-T420.html

Would I have enough power to pull with just that amp and an alpine head unit?

I would do a 4 channel to start, running half of it to bass and the other half to the front speakers...assuming you are going to use one of my sub boxes...but that isn't what this thread is about.

If you wanna know what I think, hit me up on my GAS page on FB. I need more discussion...but if you want more discussion here, make your own thread so this one does not get cluttered.

            Cool?
