Need advise old school amp and sub

I've got an orion sx2150 amp and a PPI 10 sub that I want to build a setup around. I need a decent set of front speakers(coaxial) that fit in the stock location and a cd headunit. Also, I'd like to have the orion power everything. Is it possible and if so, how can I make it happen? I believe it's called tri mode.

    Amp specs
    2 x 150W @ 4 ohms
    2 x 300W @ 2 ohms
    1 x 600W @ 4 ohms bridge
    THD: 0.03%
    S/N Ratio: 110dB
    Freq. Response: 6Hz ∼ 20kHz (±0.5dB)

It's possible, allocate more power up front. I had Polk audio 6.5 2 ways. I would recommend them, they sound good down low even without a sub. The tweeters don't tuck under the kick panel all the way causing a slight bulge, but I didn't care, it's not noticeable unless you really look at it.

As for headunit you'll probably get 1 million different Opinions, but imo I hate the flip down faces, they have never worked out for me. Id get anything with 40w per channel and no flip down

I would love to see that amp on bass with one of my boxes. I don't know what you have for a 10", as PPI have made several. Finding one that would deal with 600 watts RMS is gonna be tough, you may just want to go to a 12, or one of my soon-to-be-released "Mega 10" boxes, intended for stuff like the Orion HCCA10 or the Alpine TypeX woofers.

A 2 ohm per coil HCCA 10 running off that amp would be absolutely fucking STUNNING, especially if you were to do the plexi-window version.

You will have a rough time finding what would be ideal to power the front and rear speakers, but a pair of Orion 240 or 280GX amps would look badass and sound amazing...

Did you ever see the little extruded parts (basically a hunk of heatsink) that join 2 or more amps together to make it look like 1? Best look ever, IMO.

Do keep in mind there is only 1 or 2 headunits that produce enough output to drive that amp properly. You really do NEED something as a line driver: Audiocontrol crossover (such as the 6XS) would be really smart, and then you can use any $100 deck and get the same (or better) SQ as any $1000 deck.

Personally, I LOVE that stupid little Pioneer DEH6300. Great looks, easy to use, almost perfect color match, etc, and with a 6XS you would have MASSIVE performance...

I was going to use the sx2150 to power the entire system.

it is only 2 channnels. You can do it with passive crossovers, you can even do a 4 ohm woofer and 4 ohm speakers in "tri-mode", but it is a HUGE loss in performance.

Define HUGE loss? I just want a small, decent sq system.

Correct me of I am wrong Luke but even if he ran a 4ohm woofer and the two front speakers off it in "tri-mode" he would end up with
                75w to the woofer
37.5w to each of the fronts?

Why not just get a small 4ch to run speakers and use your amp for the woofer?

Well, here is the deal: if you use passive crossovers (necessary for powering the whole system off of a 2 channel), the bass inductors (AKA "Choke Coils") have HUGE loss, plus make a far muddier sound.

                  Read this: http://sound.westhost.com/lr-passive.htm#s4.3

His amp makes 600 watts RMS on a 4 ohm woofer. If he used a 12db/oct passive crossover, at roughly 80Hz he would see less than 200 watts to the woofer.

Then, using a 12db/oct passive high pass filter at roughly 120Hz, the highs would have plenty of power, but would still have to deal with Intermodulation distortion somewhere near the 40% range as he neared normal listening levels...yeah, it can be done, but it really is nowhere near as good as an active system, and considering how cheap this stuff is these days, it just seems kind of silly to not do normal active crossovers.

Appreciate the answer. So any $100 head, a decent set of front 5.5s that fit and another 2 channel amp. Suggestions on 5.5 and amp? Nothing crazy costing please.

If you are going to do it that way, make sure your deck has crosssovers, both high pass and low pass. Pick any amp, they are all the same. Should be able to get a competent 2 channel for $80 or so. Everything is taiwan crap these days, most amps near that price are identical internally; none better than the rest.

Cool. Thoughts on front speakers? Also, how much does your 10 sub box run?

The 10" R3V box, AKA "the Luke Box" is $220 shipped to your door, until German Audio Specialties.com goes live, then prices will go up.

I don't know the model of your woofer, so I cannot recommend a box for it.

There are very few 5.25" component speakers on the market, most suck, some worse than others...no one cares about 5.25".

I will be releasing a door panel kit soon, something classy and elegant that drops a beefy 6.5" driver into the door, but mods will be required...down the road a bit though.
