    alternator

On an 84 318i, can I run the 90 amp alternator from a 1990 325i? They physically look the same.

Or, what is the best swap alternator for an early m10 318i?

Id say you are ok to do so. Its still only going to put out 14.4 but you can run more stuff like ICE or a welder. It may bog the car down at idle a lil

        1984 318i alternator is 80 amp
        1990 325i alternator is 90 amp.

physically they look identical, mounts, connections are in the exact same location.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever done this swap, or if there is a better alternator swap to get more amps. I'm putting in a decent system and 80 amps seems like a little on the small side.

Hmm I was wondering this exact same thing. My alternator has seen better days and I want to replace it with the best option. I will subscribe to this newsletter.

It won't hurt a thing. It'll simply have the capacity to handle a higher load.

I've been swapping alternators for years. I'm running an alternator from a fully loaded lincoln continental on my '73 Bronco for the added output.
