I've been lurking on the board since I got my E30 three years ago but haven't posted much. The board has been invaluable as a resource for searching fixes for problems.
But as a first sorta-real post, I just thought I'd share the joys of little projects that can make such a difference in my enjoyment of the car. Since April, my speedometer and odometer wouldn't work when cold, which in recent weeks had meant I almost never had a working speedometer and appeared to be getting 8 mpg in an eta. Smacking the dash used to bring it back to life intermittently but didn't any longer.
Over the weekend, I pulled the cluster, reflowed the solder joints on the speedometer unit and while I had things apart installed the polished gauge rings I got from Pummy. I also reconnected a trace for the fog light indicator lamp that had been split by a crack in the board. So nice to know how slow I'm going again, and the rings are a nice touch on something I'm looking at for most of an hour each day.
It's the little things...
