1984 318i gauge cluster problem *please help*

Hey guys, so I'm new to the forum and just picked an 84 318i for 500 because the gauge cluster didn't work along with a few other problems. I've done quite a bit of research on here and google and can't really figure out the issue. When I got it the fuse was blown and nothing on the cluster worked. I replaced the fuse and a few things here and there started working. But eventually blew the fuse again. The tachometer "works" but I don't think it's displaying the correct rpms. I can't it to go over 3k rpms and I know it's revving higher than that. Also the warning lights on the bottom and only the right run signal indicator and the gas gauge will bounch around and work intermittently(left turn signal always works). I took the SI board out but it didn't have batteries at all.. Just an empty spot for two extremely small batteries about half as long as a AA. So I'm not sure what to do next. I'm about to the poin of just buying a new cluster. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I'm over looking something. Also I only have plugs for the blue an white connector but not the yellow? Is this normal? And then I have two single wires that plug into the green connector. Btw this is a VDO unit. TIA for any help I will try to post pics of what I'm looking at.

Your best bet is to replace the cluster, the si board is most likely shot. Nothing goes in the yellow socket, the 2 wires that go to the green plug are for the cruise control.

If you get a new one make sure to change out your coding plug as the other one will most likely be 6cyl
