    Who have used RE Subs?

I am looking specifically at the RE SEx12 12" woofer, I am currently using a Polk DB and have about 500wrms power and raw spl is lacking a little bit.

    [url]http://www.ebay.com/itm/RE-AUDIO-SEx12-D2-12-SUB-WOOFER-CAR-SUBWOOFER-SE12-new-/200674438113?pt=Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures&hash=ite m2eb920ebe1[/url

I've used infinity kappas, jl w3s, older polk dbs, and image dynamics idq v2s so I am looking for something with sound quality but MORE capable than the polk db.

The RE SEx series are my all time favourite subs, I've never owned them but heard them quite a few times and nothing compares. Also if you map out their response in winISD they will give better results in the same box vs any other speaker in their price range.

When I have the spare cash I'm going to grab a SEx-15, beautiful speaker. These are their best line IMHO, unless you are going for pure spl...

Oh and definitely don't waste your money by buying it off ebay.

You can get the D2, or D4 version, both cheaper at sonic then that ebay link. Free shipping too.

      Nice.

What kind of system/setup have you heard specifically?

How do they sound, compare to other stuff you've heard before?

      Thanks

When my friend and I had the same car, both 95 Maxima's he had two of the SEx 12's in the trunk, custom box, ported, tuned to around 24hz I think, not sure. Some MB quart mono running around 800watts to each one. I feel the Maxima is the closest comparison to the E30 that I've heard these in because it's close in size and has the huge trunk like an E30.

Great response all around, the bass from those subs seem to pierce through everything. You could be outside the car and it sounded just as good as inside, but not too muddy, just strong, deep and had the great feel of coming from everywhere, hard to pinpoint where the subs were.

        Hope that helps.

I used to have a 15" RE SX in a 3.5 cuft enslosure tuned to 36 HZ in my 240 hatchback. That was back in my high school days (crap, around 04). I never had it metered however. It was a monster to say the least. I ended up selling it and going with a SI MAG (v2 I think) in a 2cuft enclsoure tuned to 28hz. Much cleaner but not as loud. All of this was powered by a JBL BP1200.1.

I think once I get my swap car in order I'll be doing an SQ build. Definitely didnt buy the e30 for sound but I hope that it can do somewhat well. I'll be using an old Adire Shiva mk iv I have collecting dust in one of Luke's boxes.

Resonant Engineering used to be very heavily favored on car audio forums. No idea on the current state of car audio and what brands are being pushed on forums currently. I may have to go lurk a bit.

Good to hear! They have a bunch of different lines, and the SEx line appears to be higher quality/middle range stuff.. Their top two are just MASSIVE, and I gotta get one that will fit in Luke's box. This is for my e34 dd, e30 gets no stereo :)

Is the new mag out yet or are they only going with the shallow mount BM? Either of those subs would be great replacements for any RE sub unless you are looking for SPL.

Last I checked, which was a LONG time ago, I havent heard any news about a new mag being released yet. AFAIK, they only have the BM :(.

Ugh, the SI Mag was the perfect balance between spl and sq, plus it was at a more than reasonable price.

Going through the website doesnt indicate anything either.

Damn! I wouldn't mind two BMs in a coupe rear side panels!

I ordered the same speaker I think a long time ago. Back when I was an audiophile.

                      It's all about the box.

Like luke said, amps are almost all the same. I opened up a power acoustik, boss, and kenwood. they all had the same layout and internals.

This speaker is the jizz though I found I can get similar quality from an alpine type R for the fraction of the cost.

I am not talking about amps or differences in amps....some are the same, but their are plenty that aren't ;)

Anyways, the type r you mention is almost the same price as the specific RE sub this thread is about, not a fraction of the cost. What are you smoking ?

Jean, you should call some local audio shops to see if they have RE subs and if they'll hook one up for you to hear. Worth a shot eh?

Yep, I plan on doing that. That's how I settled on CDT and Image Dynamics before!
