Calling wiring experts! (LUKE) Harness damaged and electrical gremlins.

As we were finishing up my turbo build I hastily threw up the A pillar guage pod with some self tapping screw. Done it may of times without problems, not this time.

Started the car and we had smoke coming from under the dash with the smell of burning wires. Cut the car off and pulled the trim to find we had hit the harness that runs from the fuse box to the check panel and interior light (Vert).

The next day I spliced all of the wires that had been affected. The solid purple(violet) wire had completly burnt its insulation off so I rewrapped it. Even after I spliced the wires I'm having wire burning and smoking issues. Also the stock gauges only work when the headling switch is pulled. And at time the headlights are on without the switch pulled. I tried to turn the car off my the key and it wouldn't die until I turned of the headlights. Also had random wiper activation. Also noticed that I have a burnt wire in the engine bay to goes to the windshield washer level sensor.

So my question. How hard would it be to pull the entire harness back to the fuse box? This seems like an immense chore. Any suggestions on the easiest way to remedy this situation easily? I just want to drive the turbo car without causing a fire.

Cliffs: Hit wire while drilling, erratic wipers/ headlight, burnt wires. What to do?

    Thanks in advance.

      oh my fuck...what a drag.

To properly replace the harness in an E30, you have to go as far as to pull the damn gas tank, believe it or not.

My guess is that you have melted wires you have not found. I think it might be easier to swap the harness alltogether.

Good god, man...so sorry to hear this.

Thats what i was afraid of.

Will all systems on the car function without the check panel wiring connected?

Poking around tonight I found where the a pillar harness connect into a plug under the dash, all the wires looked fine.

If I were to unplug the damaged portion I should still have all functions, correct?
