    Stock premium upgrades/sound deadening?

I'm going to be doing a little work to my car audio soon while I work on my 2.7e to 2.5i conversion. My 84 currently has a ugly ass blue Pioneer HU, which I installed by running new el cheapo speaker wires to all four corners and converted from stock to premium setup. I even ran wires into the doors similiar to how the late model doors are wired for the tweeters.

I am planning on swapping to either the stock tape deck, a cd43, or a Nakamichi (sp?) HU and re-wiring properly to all 4 corners. I'm not looking to increase power or run a sub, just clean up my hackhob wires and clean up my dash appearance. If there are any other clean decks out there that match the e30 interior please suggest them.

I figure the Nak will have decent enough output to handle the speakers without an external amp but the BMW units rely on the factory amp, which I do not have. What are some cheap alternatives?

Wiring wise, I have an unlimited supply of 14ga stranded in various colours through work at no cost. Its basic industrial wire and I'm unsure if it would work for what I want because of shielding quality. If it is no good, what are some other alternatives for middle of the road quality?

I do not use CD's (ever) and iPod control is not necessary. I DO want the option to plug an AUX in so I can play through the headphone port on my phone, but AUX inputs must be rear as I hate the sight of wires running to the front of my stereo. I can handle the solder-on mod for the input on the stock tape deck if I go that route.

Ya dont skimp on wire. That wire sounds like a bad idea. Go for an alipine unit. YOu can buy the one that just plays Ipod and stuff

I've been going through that sound deadening thread for a while trying to get a good grasp on what's recommended and finally have decided on some of that lightweight foam style insulation to cover the larger (currently completely un-insulated) bits of my interior. Doors, floor, rear seat, under rear quarter glass.

Stereo wise I was hoping to avoid buying an aftermarket HU that's just as ugly as my current Pioneer, but finding an orange LED unit with a rear aux port is next to impossible it seems.

I will buy proper stereo wire, unless it looks like I can salvage the stock setup, though i don't know if i can as I think my car is an ampless common ground early model
