    center console stays on help.

THe other day after going for a drive my center console stayed on after i shut off the car. The radio still played until i released it, the blower was still blowing and the avg. mph/temp/etc. stayed on. all of the lights went out except for the factory display for avg. mph/temp/etc. does anyone know what this could be? any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Did you turn off the headlights?

Well the headlight knob, I know that will keep the Cd player, wipers, vents etc on even after car is off.

i pushed the knob in to turn off the lights. the wipers arent on, only the things on are on the center console i.e. radio, heat(if not turned to 0) and the display with avg mph and the temperature. anyone? i really dont want to bring it to a shop ive already put too much money into it. i feel like its a simple fix (i hope) maybe i hit a switch or somehting to keep it on. does anyone have any ideas...

just going from memory but iirc a fault at the unloader relay can cause this, my m3 did this intermittently and it turned out to be a bad connection at the starter so there was no connection between starter and unloader.

Nope, none of the above. the light switch cannot keep anything on, and the unloader relays have no connection with the radio.

Assuming (and we all know the power of assume, right?) that your car has not been butchered, the ONLY possible issue is a bad ignition switch.

The reason I say that is the simple fact that is only point at which all of those items are interconnected...again, assuming you car is not burnt/hacked/damaged...is the ignition switch.

If you brake lights still work, my diagnosis is flawless. IGN2 (green/purple) is stuck on.

A quick check is get it to screw up and unplug your switch. If all goes out, it is for certain the switch.

Order the electrical part from Blunttech.com...don't support an idiot at a dealership. If a parts guy didn't know that, don't pay him.

^In all technicality, a good parts guy WILL ask this question. Because a lot of people come in asking for an ignition switch, and get pissed off when they get it. Later explaining that what they were looking for is the Ignition lock cylinder...

But, I second the blunttech motion.
