    kicker kx300.4 internal short

hey guess im introducing myself on the board. been lurking a while and learned a lot. I am not huge into car audio but i know enough to be dangerous. I do know about cars however (Chevy/Caddilac Technician) but i have a predicament in my e30. i have a kicker kx300.4 running my door speakers, it has been installed for a few weeks with no issues. now randomly it cuts out and then comes back in at low volume. the subs keep on playing however. the protection light is on so i unplugged the speaker wires and rca's and still the light is on. Is that a sure fire internal short or am i missing something?

And if it has anything to do with it i have a 1987 325IS and my name is Tim

Do you have the front speakers running off the front channels and the subs running off the rear channels? Do the subs still play with the protection light on and the front speakers and RCA's disconnected?

the subs are on their own dedicated amp which is working.

i took the amp apart and cant see any burned up traces on the circuit boards. gonna get the multimeter ad do some snooping around.

Tim, check your speaker wires for shorts to ground first. What are you using for speaker wires?

Yeah, you said that and I missed it. I bet it is trash, likely an oscillating power supply, thus generally not worth fixing these days.
