    Fuel gauge not working

I have a '88 325ic that the fuel guage is acting up. My mechanic check all the connections and voltage and everything seems right.

What could cause this, gauge went bad? If so, I saw on ebay a fuel gauge but its Motometer but my cluster is VDO, is it the same connection?

    Here's a vid I made yesterday.

    Thanks in advance.

I just took out my sender, took the tiny nut off the bottom, removed the aluminum cylinder and used 3000 grit sand paper to sand the tiny wires inside that the float slides on. Fixed it right up. Works perfectly now.
