    Ipod Dock

So I got a new head unit and it has the USB in the rear. I decided I wanted an Ipod dock for my touch. Couldn't find anything online so I made one.

Just cut a piece of would to fit in the ashtray.

    Painted it with Polydip.

Glued the cord to one of the Ihome inserts.

    All together.

Sorry for the not so good pictures. Took them late last night.

Its a little tight so I need to trim it a little. Pulling the Ipod out usually pulls the whole tray out.

So let me know what you think or post some pictures of your own custom dock!
    Cheers!

I wanted to be able to hide it otherwise I would have probably put it closer to the E-brake. Although I am still trying to fit the E36 armrest in there too.

Thanks guys I am glad you like it!

I was looking to do something very similar. But I don't likke the angle I get, it seems to vertical to read and use.

Good write up though, gives me some new ideas.

                Thanks!

The roads here suck so I'd be a little worried about the connection on the ipod taking a beating around here. I simply wired my ipod chord into my ashtray though so close you see nothing but I have the whole cable stuffed in there, works perfect, may make a padded side holster for the ipod someday.

                    Real cool though, looks clean!

I dont know how many times I have thought about doing this very thing. The only thing about this that would bother me is that its not leaning back for me to read the screen.

I thought the angle would bother me too but when it is connected the screen goes blank and you cant control anything from the Ipod. There are some head-units that will let you control both from the radio and the Ipod. If I had gotten one of those I was planning on using a retractable cord for the Ipod.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I was hoping to see what other people have done.
