Can I use 4ohm speakers in my e30?

I've searched but I can't find a definitive answer.
The original speakers are 8ohms.
The speakers from the z3 are 4ohms. They both look pretty much the same and it's a plug and play application.
I've already tested it and it sounds just fine. But am I going to ruin my amp by doing this?

Uh, the stock Nokias are 4 ohm if you have premium sound.

What year and model is your car?

Only the very early cars have 8 ohm speakers.

The issue you have is that the stock PS mids incorporate the crossovers which it does not sound like you have.

The reason you cannot find a "definitive" answer is that there is not one. Car by car basis is how this stuff was engineered, apparently. Sorry I cannot be more help.

My car is a '91 318is. The front speakers have black cones and are not labeled at all. The rear speakers (same size) have brownish paper looking cones and are labeled as 8ohms.
The speakers I'm wanting to put in are from a '97 z3 and are labeled as 4ohms.

Yes, that is fine. You have a non-amplified, non-PS car. I believe it came with 4 ohm speakers, perhaps someone has replaced yours at some point. Either way, yes you can, but you will have miserable treble. If you added a pair of inexpensive tweeters in stock housings (your doors are pre-wired, so install is easy) it would sound MUCH better.

Do you have any details on installing the tweeters? I have 4 tweeters from the z3 that I could cut the connector for and install it. But I did a little searching earlier inside the car and could track down exactly where (if any) the connections for tweeters exist.

There are no passive crossovers in the Z3, you would have to either make something or buy some aftermarket crossovers
