I worked on my KD-X50BT radio installation over the weekend and came up with this solution for mounting the hands free mic in the fader housing. It was pretty easy to do. Just pop out the old guts, hit the fron with some black krylon, stuff a piece of electronics packaging foam in and use double sided tape to secure the mic inside. I'm not real crazy about the paint color match with the rest of the dash, but its not quite as bad as the picture shows.

Except for the fader switch I trashed, nothing is terribly permanent, so I could pop it all out and do it over. Here's what it looks like installed

It seems to work ok, about the same as other locations I tried anyway. Mic volume was reported as a little low; I "sounded far away". No worse than when I tried it on the steering column or sun visor though. Reading the manual (imagine that) it seems like the mic has a gain control buried somewhere. I'll give that a try next and let you know.
Control color match is pretty good too (selected color #15 for display and button group), but the plastic on the display and bezel is a little on the shiny side. The headlight dimmer works fine if you hook that up.
Cheers, Bob M
