For best results but a new cable.

          Right over your head.

But yes, if I recall correctly the antenna wire does run under the carpet. If you pull off your back seat you should be able to see the path it follows.

so, how much better of a signal would it be between a new cable and just splicing in a new conector to the existing cable. this is charity work for a friend and i have enough shit to do on my own to get to involved with this.

If it isn't your car, and you're doing it for free, ghetto rig that shit so that it works. ;)

I'd stop in your local Radio Shack, for starters, they may have repair stuff for that.

I just went through various antennas and wiring combinations looking for good radio signal. I first tried a Z3 antenna base with stock z3 antenna, and new factory cable (for z3). I had dick for reception from this combo, but believe the amplified antenna base must have been junk.

What I arrived at that has given me even better reception than in my X5 (which is actually pretty good) is the following:

3 section manual telescoping antenna from Autozone - $20

~8 feet of RG6 home cable wire to combine with 4 ft that comes with ant.

Then splice as necessary via soldering the inner conductors together and also the outside shield but keep them separated. Route wire through and under center console area for shortest path.

its coax so its pretty hard to splice.
