Got free 6x9 speakers- should I install them?

Hey so as the title says I was given a set of these Sony 6x9s for free from a friend who just happened to have them laying around. He didnt tell me where they came from but he did say they work. As far as I can tell they look brand new.

Though I admit to knowing nothing about car stereos, I have done some reading and saw that 6x9s aren't a good choice for an E30... Maybe that was just Luke ranting. Like I just said, I don't know.

Here are the speakers... They don't match. One is a 4-way and one is a 3-way.

My current back speakers are awful. Theyre cracked and sound like shit. Of course I would like to have something decent in there. So is it worth the trouble of installing these random sony 6x9s or should I sell them and get some 5.25s?

    Thanks
    -Nick

Get rid of those speakers. Sure they would be better than what you currently have, but I would just get rid of them due to how much work you would need to do in order to make them fit in the rear deck. If you can, get your hands on some BMW premium sound speakers from another E30 or buy yourself a decent set of 5-1/4" coaxial speakers.

I actually made a Riser panel that pit the back deck perfectly and allowed me to fit 6X9 in rear without having to cut metal. I was thinking about making a template and building bout 20 pairs but did not know if it would sell. Aftermarket risers use to be fairly popular however, they are very scarce.

I think 6x9's would sound good, but if you already have a sub its kind of worthless. 6x9's are meant to act as highs and mid bass. I personally don't like Sony Xplod products. If I were you, I'd Craigslist those and get something Luke recommends. The guys knows his stuff, from reading his threads and posts he knows which products sound the best in e30's. Good luck.

I would put them in and make a 6x9 raised platform to make the fit

Thats whats up! ^ Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll just toss them in with those adaptors and enjoy fresh speakers.

Does it matter that they don't match? One 3-way and one 4-way? Will I notice anything?

6x9s are awesome - especially in a car with a loud exhaust/suspension and little insulation - they make roadtrips much mroe pleasant. I simply moved the clips around and screwed mine into the rear panel after I rewrapped it.

Interesting how one is made in Vietnam and the other in China.

edit: didnt' realize they weren't matching speakers...
