looking for excellent quality 5 1/4 rear convertible speakers.

I have all new speakers in my vert, 1 year old.

They are all pioneers. I dont have the models off hand but they are both different pioneers.

The ones in the front are great. The ones in the rear arent cutting it. distorted with scratching.
Ive got the balance turned way forward because of this, the rear speakers cant handle volume like the fronts.

I dont even have a amp yet because the rear speakers cant handle the volume in the clarion head unit. But I want one.

Im looking for some great coaxial speakers that fit in the rear enclosure meaning they are shallow.

If you dont know if they fit that doesnt help.

For what it matters the ones I have in the front dont fit in the back they are 2 wide.

    I also love a steal.

I want speakers worthy of a top level amp.

    my first look is these

I have as a pointer to get 2 way speakers because they fit better. but the speakers dont usually tell you how wide they are.

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but adding an amp may also help. When you press the amplifier in your headunit too far, the signal becomes taxed, it adds distortion. This distortion is contributing to your problem. If you had an amp, you wouldn't have to turn your volume knob up as far to get the volume you wanted... adding less distortion to the signal.

In a convertable, you may be better off focusing on getting more power to your front speakers, since the rears are positioned off into space anyway.

I've heard plenty of good systems with weaker rear speakers, or even stock speakers... for they only need to provide some rear-fill to the fronts. I would think most aftermarket speakers, if they are in working order, would work fine.

          thanks for the advice.

that does make me pause. I really want to get this jensen amp thats in the 500$ stereo.

But if my front speakers still sound good maxxed out, and my rears scratch its not just the head unit. to my ignorant opinion.

Yes youre right in the convertible turning the rear speakers down is not a tragedy because of the wind. The po had that same idea and drove the car for 15 years or so, she put in the cheapest speakers in the back. She ordered all new speakers when she was getting ready to sell it some decent ones and some cheap as it get ones for the back.

But if Im going to get the amp might as well go for it. Test how the speakers respond and then get speakers.

cabriolet gave me the right advice for when I want to get speakers.

and they are 60 on amazon. known to fit in cabriolets.

I have some pioneers but they are cheaper, the kind that are blue, or all red.

edit, Im actually going to get all the same speakers cabriolet has eventually.

unless someone has something thats a better deal than these.

just fyi they are a pain to mount. the magnet is so strong it's very hard to get them to align w/o getting stuck to the fender.
put the top 2 flanges behind and the bottom 2 out. it allows a good mount without touching the back.

absolutely get the Pioneers that Cabriolet suggested...but keep in mind, the rears are basically flapping in the wind. Nothing you can do easily will make them sound good, especially at the lower frequencies.

If you have an amp that is properly set up, those rears will have zero bass anyway. I typically run the high pass at about 120Hz for the Premium Sound mids I use most of the time.

Oh: a good trick to make mounting easier is to shove a towel (you're a towel!) or something behind them so they don't stick so bad to the sheet metal. Pull the towel out when you are done!

BTW: all you "power top" guys, get ready. The model (Abesonics' '93 cabby) is here, the power top 'vert box shall commence VERY soon, and hopefully the new Soundstream 8" will be ready too. Much better power handling for those who think they need it.

                      Luke,

Will the new Soundstream 8" be suitable just for the power top box, or for all vert boxes?
I haven't bought any subs yet and am wondering if I should wait for these...
