    time for new speakers

So my stock speakers sound like they're 30yrs old... o wait.

When i turn it up i hear lots of static, terrible, terrible noises. if its turned all the way up it doesn't even remotely sound like music.

I am looking for plug and play speakers, same size and all that mumbo jumbo. should i just buy new oem or some pioneers or some thing? i dont want crazy sound, im not into that anymore. just want some freshening up.

do you have the wiring for premium sound? the little tweeters in front?

well, I got steered towards these coaxials

they would be ideal for your rear speakers.

The fronts Im still shopping myself for the right component speakers.

The stock tweeters is a part of that triangle and cant be changed unless you modify them a bit.
They look like this when pulled apart

After modifikation mine now looks like this

              Honestly, it ain't your speakers.

If they play at all, they are just fine.

Follow my amp bypass thread and replace your deck.

The Pioneers that were posted and their matching component set are your best choice if you want to waste money on new speakers...but I am telling you if you do, it will still sound like shit.

Let me explain something: there are very few 5.25" speakers at all on the market. You don't have a lot of choices compared to the more common 6.5" size.

The choices that are out there are a more high-performance oriented design. Makes sense, right? Well, here is the issue: ALL high performance audio systems use subwoofers. Keep in mind, we are talking everything from cheap computer speakers to all levels of car audio (any decent factory system has a subwoofer, period) and home audio, with the exception of huge home speakers intended for 2 channel operation...and then, most of those use a subwoofer too.

What a subwoofer does is allow the bass to be channeled to a single, larger enclosure that is intended to produce the low frequencies so the smaller speaker intended to produce midrange and treble can do their job easier, as it does not have the stress of attempting to produce what it cannot: bass.

Think of that: if you remove the bass, the mids and highs are cleaner and clearer, right?

Properly engineered and installed systems have filters BEFORE the amplifiers that separate the bass from the mids and highs and send that signal to the appropriate amp.

That is the whole point of "crossovers", AKA "High Pass" or "Low Pass" filters.

Thus, you can have say 50 watts to each speaker and 350 watts on bass and achieve pretty loud sound, way way more than you are expecting.

So, all that having been said, here is the issue: ALL speaker manufacturers expect you have a subwoofer. so no 5.25" speaker sold today makes any bass at all...none.

Your stock Premium Sound have better bass than any aftermarket 5.25" speaker ever sold, no matter the brand, no matter the price.

Thus, my professional opinion: if you are absolutely convinced you will not have a subwoofer in your car AND you want the stock speaker sizes, use the stock Premium Sound speakers, they are the best choice ever available.

However, it still sounds like ass. We are talking 4 tiny 5.25" speakers against all the road noise and motor noise...all running on a legit 50 watts on a good day. It is the best option, most logical choice kind of thing, assuming your goal is something to basically make some decent noise so you aren't too bored on the road. In other words, barely adequate for music, but adequate for talk radio and such.

If your goal is good sound you MUST have a subwoofer, period.

If you don't want to waste your trunk or have stupid shitty rattles or spend a ton of dough getting nice sound, follow my "$500 stereo" thread. It truly kicks ass, sounds fucking fantastic and looks a million bucks, assuming you do a tidy job of it.

If you want your ass kicked a little less, we have other options for you, but they are basically more money for less sound. The E30 10" "Luke Box" we build is the absolute best subwoofer value in all car audio history, bar none. The thing fits so well it is tiny when installed, amazing sound, NO RATTLES, and actually makes your car quieter.

Use a $50 woofer on a $50 amp and you get pretty damn solid thunder. Get that same woofer on a $100 amp and all hell breaks loose.

The Subwoofers we build absolutely transform your music listening experience, and I am not exaggerating at all. We have sold over 400 of these boxes on this forum alone, this ain't just me talking shit.

              Hope this helps.

              Luke

I totally believe in this cult, even without hearing it.

The reason is that there is a constant thread in all e30 forums that says my front speakers sound good but my rear speakers sound like crap.

something about 5 1/4 inch speakers must sound bad without a subwoofer it follows logic.

yeah, subs free up sound and all that. but, there is just static at medium to high volumes even. i probably need MOAR POWER and should probably check if the speakers aren't torn or worn a lot. yeah, i saw your luke boxes and the stuff you make, looks really awesome but i just have a lot of stuff on my plate for the e30 atm. i'll sort it out eventually

Just install a deck and bypass the amp, you will be surprised how much better it sounds.
